Fostering changes lives!

Fostering is one of the most challenging yet fulfilling jobs a person can undertake. For those individuals willing to open their hearts and homes and give of their time and resources to a vulnerable child, their lives will be forever changed.

Children come into foster care hurt, not only because of the abuse and neglect that brought them into protective custody, also due to loss of their world as it had been known before. Good kids come into care that have had really bad things happen to them – they deserve a caring, safe place to call home — with adults willing to understand the impact of their early history on their socio-emotional development and to stand by them as they grow and mature.

How do we help caregivers?

The Foster and Kinship Care Education (FKCE) program at Woodland Community College offers specialized free parenting classes that meet State and Yolo County requirements for current and prospective Resource Families to take foster youth into their home. We aim to educate, inspire and support caregivers so that you can make a positive difference in the lives of the children in your homes and hearts. Our goal is to help you provide a stable, secure home that promotes healing for our foster youth.
