Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism are both neurodevelopmental disorders, and have several symptoms in common. For example, people with autism and ADHD may both be impulsive, and people with both disorders may develop speech later than is typical in children. ADHD and autism, however, are distinct diagnoses. It’s entirely possible to have both ADHD and autism. When that happens (which it does quite often), it’s important to recognize and treat both disorders appropriately. Join us as Dr. Melissa Daniels shares identifiers, struggles, and helpful parenting tips for those of us doing our best to raise healthy children with these and other neurodevelopment disorders.

This workshop we plan to address the following points:

  • How the brain works and is affected by various forms of abuse and neglect
  • ADHD:  What is it? What are the three affected areas? What are the behavioral symptoms? Recent changes in DSM5 diagnostic criteria.
  • How does our understanding of neurological challenges inform our responses to behavior?
  • Specific interventions for both children and adults working to live their best lives with neurological challenges
