Per the CA Department of Social Services, Written Directives v.8.0- All CA Resource Parents are required to take this training at least once. If newly approved, it must be taken within the first 12 months of Approval.

This Resource Parent Basic CSEC (Commercially Sexually Exploited Children) workshop offers an essential and eye-opening introduction to understanding human trafficking and its impact on youth, particularly those in foster care. Led by Colijia Feliz, a dedicated social worker whose passion for this work is deeply personal, this training is grounded in both professional expertise and lived experience. After witnessing several family members become victims, Colijia committed her career to supporting and advocating for exploited youth. She has mentored CSEC survivors and provided direct care as a Resource Parent, bringing a compassionate and practical perspective to this training.
Through this powerful and informative series, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of CSEC and human trafficking, including the various types of trafficking, the profiles and tactics of traffickers, and the grooming and recruitment methods used to exploit youth. The training will also explore the significant role of the internet and social media, highlight key risk factors—such as involvement in the foster care system—and teach how to recognize signs that a youth may be a victim. In addition, the workshop will examine the sexual abuse continuum, center the voices and perspectives of survivors, and provide best practices for ensuring safety and delivering trauma-informed care. Participants will leave equipped with practical tools, increased awareness, and valuable resources to better support and protect the youth in their care.
