A leading reason for children being placed into foster care is associated with Family Violence, previously referred to as “domestic violence)”, it is also a violation against the children.

Children and youth exposed to family violence experience emotional, mental, and social harm that can affect their emotional, social and developmental growth. Children may respond differently, with the youngest having the greatest negative outcomes.  A child may lose their ability to feel empathy for others. Others feel socially isolated, unable to make friends as easily due to social discomfort or confusion over what is acceptable. Some children react to family violence by internalizing their feelings which is manifested by depression and anxiety. In young children, depression may take the form of sadness, poor appetite, chronic fatigue, withdrawal from friends and low self-esteem. Many older boys feel responsible for protecting their mother which causes anxiety problems.  Join us to learn more!

Benefits of attending:

  • Know what is meant by “family violence”.
  • Correlation between early exposure to violence and later trauma responsive behaviors.
  • Understand family violence is a trauma, with impact to early brain development and later relationships.
