As a parent or caregiver, you know that talking to your teens about drug use can be tricky. First step to a positive conversation, get the facts, know what you are talking about. It is important to be honest and direct, sit down and have an open, honest conversation. Kids need to know the legal consequences of buying, getting, and using drugs. They also need to understand the life-long issues of addiction and for some, it is just one use, and it becomes all they can think about. For these conversations to happen, find one-on-one time with your child, praise them for their successes, goals, and dreams. Really get to know and understand your child. Within all the conversations, keep your cool. Dr. Judy Osterhage will lead this workshop that will benefit all of us as we take on the hard and much needed conversations with our teen and young adult children on the topic of drugs.
