Overview of Puberty, Typical Development, Birth Control Options & Tips for Courageous Parent/Child Conversations
An often overlooked, critical subject matter, Healthy Sexual Development & Reproductive Rights is now a training requirement for all California Resource Parents. This class addresses caregiver requirements as stated in Senate Bill 89 and the CDSS Written Directives v.8.0, to safeguard the needs, issues, and concerns of a young person’s healthy sexual development, reproductive rights, along with an overview of contraception, discussion on gender, along with concerns for youth identifying as LGBTQ+ and the need for cultural awareness and understanding.
You will leave the workshop knowing a foster teen and young adult’s sexual and reproductive rights, including confidentiality and our obligations to follow the “Reasonable and Prudent Parent Standard”. Provided are tips for guiding and engaging youth in conversations about their physical development, sexual health, and relationships. This class will also touch upon the care for our CSEC youth, those who have been sexually exploited and ways to assist them in healing. Although the subject matter can be difficult to hear it essential to understand and support our foster youth around healthy sexual development & reproduction.
