Positive relationships and support are central to trauma recovery. They are also important to general well-being for both children and their caregivers. Join Chelsa McGowan, a foster adoptive parent and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, as she shares important trauma-informed principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment, to help each of us build a ‘trauma-informed’ circle of support.
Important for all of us is to focus on several key aspect of building a “Trauma Informed Circle” of family and friends. Highlighted will be several guiding principles of trauma informed care. These include:
- Safety
- Trustworthiness
- Peer support
- Collaboration
- Empowerment and choice
- Cultural, historical and gender issues(3)
We all are working to do our best to help the children that come to live in our homes heal. This workshop will help us to focus more attention and sensitivity to the critical issues of healing from trauma.
