Resource Parents play a powerful role in shaping a teen’s future. Your encouragement, belief, and guidance can make all the difference in helping youth see college and higher education as achievable and worthwhile goals. Many foster and former foster youth qualify for significant financial support — including grants, scholarships, tuition waivers, and specialized programs — Next-Up and Guardian Scholars – designed specifically to remove barriers and make college success achievable and affordable.
This engaging two-part workshop is designed to equip both caregivers and youth with the knowledge and tools needed to move confidently toward higher education. Participants will learn about the wide range of financial resources available — CASH FOR COLLEGE — and gain a clear understanding of how to access and navigate financial aid, the Chafee Award, and both Community College and California State University support programs. The workshop will also explore the long-term value of education, career pathways, and how Resource Parents can actively support goal setting and planning. The sessions combine practical guidance, real-life insight, and encouragement to help families see higher education not as a distant dream, but as a realistic and supported next step.
The workshop will be presented by Laney Mangney, WCC EOPS Counselor, and guided by the JBay Foundation curriculum to ensure an empowering, youth-centered experience.
