Evening One empowers resource families, caregivers, and CASA’s to discuss the value of higher education with the youth in their care and provide ideas for how they can play an active role in supporting these youth to college. Caregivers will learn the significance of early college exploration, preparation, and key steps that they can take to help youth turn their dreams into degrees. We will bring in the voices of youth and young adults with lived experience to help you better understand their dreams for the future and how college can help pave the way for wider opportunities and a better life.

Evening Two is all about finding the money that is available for youth that were in care on their 16th birthday or after the funds that will pay for college, including Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Chafee (the CA Dream Act funding). This course will guide you, resource families, caregivers and CASA’s, to better understand how to support the youth in your care to make a smooth transition from high school to college. Together we will learn about the benefits of college and the different pathways available to support youth as they make their higher education plans. Caregivers and participants will also learn about the key steps youth must take in their junior and senior year of high school, and the supports and resources that exist to help youth along the way. These two sessions really are a must for all resource parents of teens and transitional age youth.

You will receive a Certificate for your records upon completion of the training.
