Discipline can be especially challenging when caring for children and youth in out-of-home care whose behaviors may be influenced by trauma, loss, disrupted attachments, inconsistent caregiving, and previous experiences with punishment.
Join us to explore practical, trauma-informed discipline strategies designed to teach appropriate behavior while strengthening safety, trust, and connection. Participants will learn how to look beyond challenging behaviors to identify the underlying needs, emotions, and triggers that may be driving them, while developing effective alternatives to yelling, threatening, power struggles, and punitive consequences.
The class will introduce concrete techniques, and special attention will be given to helping caregivers distinguish between behaviors that require discipline and behaviors that reflect trauma, developmental needs, or emotional dysregulation.
