All foster youth qualify for FREE Head Start/Early Head Start Preschool regardless of the foster parents income. These programs provide childcare and education for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age before entering kindergarten. They offer play experience, kinder readiness, meals plus snacks, and primary care that increases children’s ability to succeed in school and in life.
- Full-time 8.5 hour program – foster parent must have need for full time care due to employment or school
- Part-time 6.5 hour program – open to all foster youth (foster caregivers do not have to be working or in school)
How do I apply?
First, complete an application and gather documents. Under the ADULT/PARENT INFORMATION section, only list information for the foster parents. Leave the OTHER CHILDREN IN HOME section blank. For foster youth ignore the list of required attachments stated on the online form. Instead, please provide:
- Do NOT provide income information for the foster caregivers.
- Placement form “Agency- foster parents agreement” including monthly reimbursement amount paid to the caregiver.
- MediCal Card/ID for the child
- Immunization history for the child
- Proof of address – utility bill etc showing that the caregiver lives in Yolo County
- Birth certificate if available
Take the completed placement form and the above documents to the Head Start location you wish the child to attend.
