YOUR OPINION MATTERS! Your attorney is there to advocate for you.
You should feel free to contact your attorney at any time to let them know what you feel or what you want, including:
- Your opinion on where you should live while in foster care or problems you are having with your current placement.
- What types of social activities you want to be involved in – sports teams, clubs, visits with friends.
- How you feel about any prescribed medications and if you agree to take them.
- Where you want to go to school.
- Any medical needs that you have that are not being addressed.
- Any foster youth right that you believe you are not getting.
- Any decisions by the court, your social worker, or foster parent that you feel strongly about.
Also, your attorney should meet with you before each court date and allow you to review your case documents that were submitted to the court.
How can I get contact information for my attorney?
- Your social worker should let you know who your dependency attorney is and their contact information.
- The Yolo County’s Children’s Services Coordinator can also assist. Call the main Child Welfare line and ask to speak with the Yolo County’s Children’s Services Coordinator.
- You can contact Dependency Legal Services directly at 916-708-0318 or email them at info@dependencyls.com to get the contact information for your attorney. Explain that you are a Yolo County foster youth and you are looking for contact information for your attorney.
